This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
