The Three Lions to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium
The England national team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they achieve the anticipated passage for a competition staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to host the England side for their opening fixture on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are planned to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning Group B, their knockout stage opener would be held at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the knockouts at Everton’s ground.
Championship Kickoff and Demonstration
The tournament was unveiled at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the venue by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for Israel to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Signs were held up with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The first match of the tournament will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.
The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5pm.
It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to families and help reach a wider spectrum of viewers.
Host Nations
The Ireland are due to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will enter the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through that route.
Venues and Playoffs
The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight staged at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.
Leadership Comment
“The event will be a championship for the followers and a celebration of everything we love about the game – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”
In excess of three million admissions, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be released to supporters.
