The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
