It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
