LBJ's Record-Setting Point-Scoring Streak Ends, Yet Los Angeles Claim Win Over Raptors.

The Lakers star knew his historic run of putting up 10+ points was in danger. At the decisive instant, however, it didn't concern him.

The right decision was to pass the rock – which is exactly what he did. With that selfless act, the legendary streak was over.

James's astounding streak of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season games with 10+ points concluded on Thursday night, when basketball's greatest scorer had only eight total points in the Lakers' 123-120 triumph versus Toronto. He provided the clutch helper, finding teammate Rui Hachimura to hit a three-point shot to win the game.

“Zero,” James said when asked about the streak ending. “The important thing is we won.”

An Unselfish Choice Delivers Victory

LeBron had the chance to tried to secure the contest – while also extending his record – on the final possession, but he chose to dish the ball to Hachimura in the left corner. Hachimura made the shot, prompting James celebrated with his hands in the air.

“Just playing the game correctly. You always make the right play,” James explained. That has always been my M.O.. That’s how I was instructed the game. That's what I've done throughout my career.”

James is fully cognizant of how many points he's scored at any point,” commented Lakers coach the coach. He acted as he has done countless times.”

The Run's Final Moments

He returned to the contest one last time at 5:23 remaining, the outcome and his personal record up for grabs. His tally was a mere six points on a 3-for-15 performance at that juncture.

He scored at under two minutes remaining to knot the score then missed a mid-range jumper with one minute to go that might have taken him to double digits.

He didn’t take a subsequent shot – though the opportunity was there. A teammate passed him the ball as time wound down, yet LeBron chose to make the extra pass instead of shooting.

The basketball deities, if you approach it correctly, they tend to bless you,” Redick stated.

Reflecting on an Unparalleled Record

The record commenced over eighteen years ago. It was, by far the longest double-digit streak the league has ever seen: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive double-digit scoring games, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 787, and The Mailman recorded at 575.

LeBron is such an unselfish player,” noted Lakers center Jake LaRavia.

He simply plays the sport. He had the opportunity but given his nature as a player and his personality off the court, he made the team play, dished to Hachimura and secured the game.”

Getting to ten points had typically been an afterthought early in the final period. Throughout his run, he had reached ten points by the beginning of the final quarter over twelve hundred times before this game.

However, two of those unusual single-digit games after three periods had happened in the last week: He recorded nine entering the final quarter versus the Mavericks on 28 November, followed by six before the fourth quarter against Phoenix earlier in the week.

James managed to keep the streak alive against the Suns. One game later, it finished – yet he was celebrating all the same.

“I always just make the best play. That is instinctive, no matter what,” James affirmed. When you make the unselfish play, the basketball gods forever returning the favor.”
