Jurgen Klopp says coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I won't manage another team within the country. Which implies in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits at the club. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, crediting him for the adjustments that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the idea of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact at the club. Jota died tragically in a vehicle collision alongside his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is not easy. Impossible.”
