Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
