Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
